He had it coming…
Oct 28Don’t get me wrong. Aidan is his own 4-and-a-half-year-old person. He has his own personality and physical attributes. Fortunately — or unfortunately — for him, he has inherited some of those from us.
For example, there’s a certain stubbornness that he managed to inherit somehow — not sure from who, though! His physical attributes appear to go back and forth between looking like Jen and looking like me. It’s a blending of both of us, which is uniquely him, yet at the same time derived from his genetic inheritance.
After a few visits to the optometrist recently, it seems he has inherited another feature. That’s right, our Aidan needs glasses. Both Jen and I wear them — for different reasons, mind you, but we both have them. Both of our parents wear them for various reasons. So, I guess, genetically, he had it coming. Though he has also managed to put a unique twist on it and needs a different form of correction than either of us.
He seems fairly excited about the glasses and was having a grand time trying them on the other day. We will hope that continues.
But all of this makes me wonder what else he will inherit from us? Will he inherit the good traits we have, or will he end up with all our bad habits as well? I guess time will tell. In the mean time, we can do our best to model what we want him to inherit and tell him how cute he looks in those glasses!
